The Shoveler
"God has given me a gift. I shovel. I shovel well. I shovel very well."
This is the explanation given by my hero The Shoveler to his wife when pushed to give up his passion, saving the world one shovel at a time. He explains to her that he can't just walk away from his gift, his calling. There is a tremendous amount of truth that can be learned from this hero, this Superman, this Mystery Man.
Find that thing that you are good at and then go after it. That very thing that to you is no big deal, but to everyone else is a distinct and unique gift. That thing is a huge key to who you are and what you are supposed to do with your life. God has given us those things for a reason and a purpose.
For some people these things are easy to see, they are fantastic artists, tremendous musicians, talented leaders. For some of us more average people these things can be hard to see. But things like listening to people, empathizing with them, seeing the truth, organizing, speaking, hanging out, loving life these are all unique things that may very well be your gift. I want to encourage people to pursue these things! Find that thing that when you do it, it feels so natural and effortless, but to others it would be a chore and a burden if they could do it at all and then GO DO IT! Find a way to do that thing. Find a way to get paid to do it. Find a way!
I had a paradigm shift last night about something in my life that I viewed as a weakness or something that I should hold myself back from, when I realized that HEY that is the very thing that sets me apart! I shouldn't hold back from the thing that makes me unique. I shouldn't shirk something that God has given me as a identity! I need to embrace that, chase it, use it and all the while finding God's will for my life!
I learned most of this last night in my Business Communications class while listening to my fellow classmates give presentations. I also learned something entirely different, but equally profound in my preparation for my presentation - but I will blog about that later tonight with my blog titled, "As a Child."

Surprisingly enough, this is one of the most profound insights I've read in a long time. It definitely hit home, and I do believe that the shoveler is going to be added to my short roster of heroes.
Thank you for writing this.
