Goodbye Kofi

Here is the official transcript of Kofi Annan's farewell address given today at the Harry S. Truman Library (which I have been visited, thank you.) I want to echo Laura Ingraham's response to Annan's harsh criticism of the Bush Administration and the toting of what it has not done and has done poorly. Hey Kofi, all I can hear when you are saying the things you are saying is - DARFUR. DARFUR. DARFUR. Where was the U.N. on that little topic? I thought that we created the United Nations to speak for those who can't, to stand up where people need someone else to stand for them. This makes me sad that the entire purpose of the U.N. at this point is to sit back, politic and throw darts of criticism at the country who seems to be one of the few countries actually interested in fulfilling the purpose of the United Nations.

From the U.N. Charter:

to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and

to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and

to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and

to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom

I am severely disappointed.
